Skinner posted a series of photos showing the making of the show, including a shot of Charli holding a script on set. She will guest star alongside the show’s regular cast, which includes Wally Baram, Mary Beth Barone, Adam DiMarco, Rish Shah, and Skinner himself. The recurring cast also features familiar faces like Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kaia Gerber, among others. Skinner expressed his excitement and gratitude for the cast and crew, calling the project “funny, sad, beautiful, and sexy.”
The Story of ‘Overcompensating’
Overcompensating follows Benny, played by Skinner, a former high school football star and homecoming king who is navigating the challenges of college while still closeted. His best friend Carmen, played by Baram, is still in high school but trying to fit in. Together, Benny and Carmen face awkward hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs, while being guided by Benny’s older sister and her legendary campus boyfriend. The show explores the theme of overcompensating as the characters try to discover their true identities.
Charli XCX’s Expanding Acting Career
This isn’t Charli XCX’s first time acting, as she previously made a guest appearance on the Gossip Girl reboot. However, her acting career is expanding, with roles in upcoming projects like Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex. There she stars alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, and a reimagining of the 1978 horror film Faces of Death. Additionally, Charli joins the cast of Julia Jackman’s fantasy film 100 Nights of Hero, showing her growing involvement in Hollywood.
