Ringo Starr Searches for Hank Williams III While Exploring Country Roots

Ringo Starr Searches for Hank Williams: Ringo Starr is back to his country music roots with his latest album, Look Up. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Starr expressed his love for classic country. He emphasized his preference for the genre’s traditional sound. “I like old country, old style, and that’s what we’ve got,” Starr said. He shared his enthusiasm for the project. It was produced by the celebrated T Bone Burnett.

The album features collaborations with edgy and innovative artists like Larkin Poe, bluegrass trailblazer Molly Tuttle, and guitar virtuoso Billy Strings. Starr praised him as “an amazing guitarist.” Reflecting on Strings’ musical journey, Starr was intrigued to learn that he once dabbled in heavy metal.

Starr surprised fans by expressing admiration for Hank Williams III, the grandson of country legend Hank Williams. Known for blending heavy metal and outlaw country in albums like Risin’ Outlaw and Brothers of the 4×4, Williams III has been off the radar since releasing two albums in 2013.

“I liked the records he made. It has an edge,” Starr said, adding, “How is Hank the 3rd doing?”? The former Beatle’s curiosity stems from a deep respect for the Williams family legacy. “I started with Hank the first and I sort of went over Hank the second and got to the third,” Starr quipped, highlighting his appreciation for the family’s multigenerational contribution to music.
